The brutal sun’s oppressive heat Two thousand miles crossed on their feet Children, parents, and elderly Come to a slab of gray concrete What makes a person want to leave A place they call their home country? They never heard Tom Petty sing "Don’t have to live like a refugee" We’ve got to break this thing down See all those huddled masses yearn Their homes are burned They can’t return They’re calling out and begging please Look down your nose They’re on their knees What is the cause of the disease That makes you lose all empathy? Scream "It’s a Christian nation" While they use their hair to wash your feet We gotta break this thing down From Mexico to Palestine But most of all the wall that’s in your mind Mind if I just put you into their shoes? Or, if you lack imagination Your previous generations’ desperation To leave their original nation So, you know, Sentiments for your grandparents Reveal just what a hypocrite you are We’ve got to break this thing down Between Pakistan and India Remain the scars of the imperial We’ve got to break this thing down Flotillas of the desperate flee Across the Mediterranean Sea We’ve got to break this thing down The kids have washed up on the shore And there’s only going to be more We’ve got to break this thing down They sleep in cages on the floor Of an abandoned big box store We’ve got to break this thing down Innocent victims of a war One that we probably paid for. Look in their eyes Humanity recognized, don’t say: "I didn’t notice. I couldn’t..." Listen to them You can’t hear their words and say: "I didn’t notice. I couldn’t..." Listen to them You can’t hear their words and not say: We’ve got to break this thing down

Selling nostalgia almost 20 years on Streaming repeating every record you’ve spun Give me the new, tell me the future’s begun Chandler from Friends says "Could I BE more rerun?" No advance Repetitive chants Reload your guns To hypnotic drums There’s no morality, it’s only PR You can’t relate when you don’t know who you are The world’s a stage, a violent actor’s the star Feeding the trolls under a bridge too far Oh, sorry! Limited strike Wherever you like The ratings spike Cops of the world say "stop resisting, you thug" Grandsons of Roosevelts leave no skull undug Ancient societies, flipped like a bug American history from under the rug I think I’ve already heard this one before Same shit different decade, remanufactured This is the remix, get the kids on the floor Timeless classic, Dankey Kang’s Bongos of War The drums, the dance Paranoid chants The familiar Strange allure Ideology is not your identity You are only what you do!

Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee Don’t bite off more than I can chew 60 pound sacks of drugs might fall on you Power is terrifying but the opposite is worse Count to 10 again and again and hope you don’t end up leaving in a hearse It never ends until one day it does Ego placebo They make vague threats of security And they’re exploiting amorality Shrugging accountability We attempt to make our culture But you can’t enforce empathy We’re trying to assign bias Every sanctioned dissent just safe enough Screaming at buildings Durable words still break You don’t have a conscience If you’ve never considered violence Regressing to a garbage state Why aren’t we scared Easy to ignore for now It’s all gone in the end Pretending it doesn’t matter doesn’t help Environmental externalities No one’s paying damages What does our march do when the cash still gets through?

Exhausted Other options Costed Time and space and life and limb and sanity New freedom From cars They don’t need em Moving people showing us how a city could be. They’re setting optimistic timetables and milestones Veins and capillaries spreading into every zone It’s always running so I don’t need a ride home From you Stop slow-mo Gonna fast forward past Cuomo No more standing by As we watch them dropping the ball Let’s get there What it costs I don’t care Cuz we’ll tax the millionaires To pay for it all So come on, take it on, it on Come on, make it run, it run Come on, build it up, it up Come on, everyone

’Cause if the fire’s still burning in the morning You’ll know it’s burned for long enough Run like a relay Trying to figure out what’s worth worrying about Trying to stay away from us and them Cut your vision, crack it open, let the light in Choose a mission, clean the kitchen, learn from children Take the kids to disney world again Post the pictures for all your friends

You can’t just take this from me My grandmother moved into this neighborhood in 1953 Oh, please just leave us alone Just because we can’t afford to buy it doesn’t mean it’s not our home I don’t know where we’re supposed to go Fuckouttahere Bodega chandelier Plant a glass shard on a faulty foundation When it’s pawn vs pawn you can feel the ground breaking Tie a tourniquet on a leaky foundation When it’s pawn vs pawn you can feel the ground breaking away 25 percent sitting empty and unsold Victims of the system sleeping out in the cold Brains and bodies used up, did what they were told Now they’re fucked You can’t just take this from me From the dawn of time our people lived among and protected the trees And now someone has come here to Burn them down, burn them down Oh, please just leave ’em alone Suddenly the latest hot commodity happens to be our home Fuckouttahere Soybeans fascists and steers Drop a gas bomb causing mass extinction When it’s gone, it’s just gone What the fuck were they thinking? Drop a gas bomb causing mass extinction When it’s gone, it’s just gone Our world’ll be sinking away Jesus fucking Christ, getting worse every day Glass and steel bullshit stands where kids used to play Cattle graze in fields where our ancestors lay And we’re fucked, fucked You can’t just take me from me Mind inside a body inside a cell Gets sapped just like a battery Captive alone Plexiglass steel and chrome Not at home Get your pesky flesh into somebody’s cage A little room’s all you get, less than minimum wage Get your pesky flesh into somebody’s cage You can bet they’ll forget where the product they’re buying is made I guess we’ll just have to uproot again and again.....

Your anger, your anger You look like you’ve got something to prove Your anger, your anger Acting like you’ve got nothing to lose You want it, you need it A little casual depravity I hate it, it pains me Like chewing ice with a cavity My anger, my anger Nerves electric and heart clenched tight Fight, flight I want it, I need it Push the red button deep inside The tension, the tension Slingshot always at full extension Suspicion is leaping Behind my second shadow is creeping You’re steaming, you’re screaming Little teapot, constant releasing My boiling, is building Now see what harm pressure cookers can do Not just you Seething Teething Breathing Seeing Being You’re training, you’re slaying Motivational go, go, go Your weakness, fear of weakness Short cutting the way to a man’s brain I’m better Am I better? Can’t admit that we’re both the same Conspiring, inspiring Punching at shadows in the cave You’re useful when you’re fooled I get the feeling the fights have been staged Coopted, psy-op-ted Sympathizers, but not with another’s pain Inciting, deciding Just whose war you’re going to wage Our anger can be power But what good is it in a blind rage?

Let me see all of you, I know you well Your clear-eyed vision we’ve been dancing in hell Don’t want to go to school and twiddle thumbs Lose track of friends as they turn into everyone Stumblin out thinking "something’s on me" It makes you wonder how long you’ve been asleep Fed you the apple and they planted the tree Check out Old Table I know what you need The mental horses are all screaming nay/neigh Living in post-nine/elevinfinity Illuminati lizards with a goal They need more blood to make the talking boxes glow The pretty girls covered in chemicals Watching the sad ex-calcium commercials Feels like it’s your fault that nobody cares Screaming fuck you to the Administration of Fear And you’re achin’ for those mountain tops And sailing out to sea Yearnin’ to traverse the lines The liars make liars made you see But you’re housing things in parents basements Feel like a bag of chips What the fuck do I know anyway? The problem don’t exist Everything sucks and you just gotta laugh Jay Leno wished it on his magical lamp The wild animals pay for the zoo Check out Old Table, don’t pretend that nothing’s true And the satellite George Clooney’s working on Steals microscopic secrets from me and you But the ghost of Pocahontas takes him out Yeah, keep on singing it and it just might come true Choose your own fate no one to tell us no No names or blames exchanged with the Citadel of Gold No need explain if you don’t wanna dance Can’t be contained everyone’s peeing each other’s pants Ponytail Kid to Sonic Elderly Blah blah blah blah blah blah HA HO E.T.C. Hard to remember so please never forget Check out Old Table on the internet

Coastal devastations in our nation Ceasefire violations Everybody’s angry now so join the crowd Listen up, don’t talk so loud Not a month, and not a year. It’s not your time to disappear Don’t grow up and don’t calm down, this is our clampdown Don’t start wearing blue and brown Find a way to find a way to find a way Changing all the locks Shredding all the stocks Whatcha gonna do when no one’s listening to you? Stranger at the door Heard it all before Just a little more Take it all away Time is neutral Here we find our uselessness again Predictably we’re tempted to pretend None of this will matter in the end How long can that cynicism last? Do you ever think about the past? Ever notice things change pretty fast? Take a page from Lisa Kalvelage You never know when you’ll be on the edge You don’t need to be John Brown to say You’re on the right side of history It don’t take much so why not start today?

about

NOATS is important.

No One and the Somebodies (or as their fans say NOATS) is an incredibly innovative and creative punk rock band that just happens to be made up of four brothers. The Yankou brothers. This year marks a very special occasion for the relatively small but incredibly loyal following they have amassed for 2 main reasons.

First being that it marks their 20th year as a band. It is actually an accomplishment to be as good as they are for this long and not get wider recognition in the straight world -but who ever said there was justice in this society?

The second reason this year is special for NOATS fans is that we are getting a NEW No One and the Somebodies album this year, and it is quite possibly their best record yet. Equally influenced by Steve Reich, Weird Al, and Fugazi, NOATS takes their time crafting their songs into the idiosyncratic ornate rock opuses they are, which makes the arrival of a new full-length record a huge event for fans.

Recorded and Mixed by Paco Cathcart (the Cradle, Palberta) who has brought the best out of our Yankou boys in the studio like no one else has before, this record has the potential to cross over to the wider rock audience not only on the strength of the production, but also the quality of the songs which range from orchestral dirges with cerebral time signatures, to immediately catchy pop-punk, topped off with the beauty of sibling harmony, and the always passionate earnest lyrics and vocal delivery.

There are people who grew up with this band for the last 20 years. Their strength, integrity, kindness, and love has shaped many a punk. That is important.
